No one who went to Venice High School could ever forget the statue occupying the long planter, though originally this had been a fountain, that stood in front of the school. By the 1960 - 70s, you might not know the identity of the female form standing there, but someone would generally tell you.
This was Myrna Loy, her birth name, which displaced her birth name of Myrna Adele Williams. This story is on the Venice High School Site.
Venice was a good walk from my home on Colby Avenue, giving me some exercise, though there were no hills, such as there had been in Rome, where I had spent the previous year.
